I didn’t do a newsletter last week because I went for a short walk on Wednesday afternoon and it took a couple of days to recover. Fortunately I seem to be over the worst of that now, so let’s start with a dog.
This dog has blessed your timeline
You know that feeling when you see a good dog and then you end up having a good day? That happened to me yesterday. I went to the coffee place at the industrial park (the best coffee place?) and as I walked over, a good dog ran over and excitedly jumped up on me. Ok dog.
The general good mood is probably due to feeling like I’m over the lingering effects of covid. It’s like, I can now walk around without feeling like I’m going to pass out. 👍🏼
My nine most liked TikTok comments, presented with no context
TikTok can easily be defined as short-ish videos, but really the best thing about TikTok — its lifeblood! — is the comments section. It is the funniest, kindest place on the internet. At least via my FYP feed. Your mileage may vary.
I like to make comments and over the past few months a few of those comments have become popular. Every time I open up the TikTok app, there are a few more noticed that someone has liked an old comment of mine. This is literally the most engagement I’ve had with my personal internet content since… since the olden days of blogging?
So here are my top nine most popular comments, presented without context. Thank u to everyone who liked?
And he uses unconventional, intuitive methods to solve mysteries. AND both House and Holmes have opioid addiction! (9480 likes)
Trixie’s husband should top complaining and give her a back rub (9236 likes)
After all, the song title is “Come On Eileen” not “Come On, Eileen” (3322 likes)
Now I feel like this song might actually good for Eurovision. It has “Think About Things” energy and a PoSiTiVe mEsSaGe! (297 likes)
I feel like it was for the best - the NZers in New York setting was brilliant and make them feel more NZ than a local production would have (174 likes)
I just love how she gave a thoughtful considered answer 😂 (38 likes)
How did I learn this in high school geography and yet not actually understand it until watching this video? (73 likes) [Don’t make rhetorical questions in comments because some people will be gripped by an overwhelming urge to answer!!!!!! In my case, a random man told me that the reason I had not learned this in class was because I was too busy looking at booooooys. Fact check: there were no cute guys in my fifth form geography class.]

Pop? Yes! Tents? No!
Watching Coachella from home feels like a good deal. The thought of going to a festival that involves camping gives me huge anxiety, but now that I’m old, that just makes me hurt in advance. But watching from home, you get to experience the shows without the heat, dust and non-specific ache.
Coachella are streaming all three days, both weekends, and with three different streams so all the shows can be watched.
Even though the PST timezone works really well with New Zealand, I didn’t end up watching all that much — just a handful of my favourites. Among them, Harry Styles was brilliant, Stromae was fun, even acknowledging the TikTok popularity of “Alor en dans”, and Doja Cat was at that imperial stage of her pop career where everything was extravagant and golden.
She opened with “Woman” (also big on TikTok) and just owned the stage from the getgo.
